Changing landscapes

Since 2012, Fondazione Benetton has been organising an annual review of films and documentaries dedicated to “Changing Landscapes”, in the conviction that the language of cinema, with its capacity for vision, poetry and immediacy, can also make a significant contribution to the reflection on places and landscapes that characterises our daily commitment.

The review is dedicated to the poet Andrea Zanzotto (1921-2011), a sensitive interpreter of our time and strenuous defender of the landscape, a constant focus of his poetic work and civil commitment.

Traditionally, the festival, curated by Simonetta Zanon (the Foundation’s landscape projects manager), is divided into two cycles of screenings. The first, between October and December, mainly features documentary films dealing with issues related to the most topical environmental issues, with a special focus on recent and local film production, thanks also to numerous collaborations with festivals and organisations committed to the dissemination of film culture. Among these are Cineforum Labirinto, Trento Film Festival, Sole Luna Doc Film Festival and, above all, Edera Film Festival, in which the Foundation has participated since the first edition by awarding the special ‘Changing Landscapes’ Prize to a work particularly significant for the theme of landscape. The second, scheduled for the first part of the year, also addresses narrative films on the international scene, again with reference to the Foundation’s themes of interest.

All screenings are accompanied by introductions and debates that, in addition to the audience, involve the authors and other experts in relation to the content of the works.
