The programme of the Study Day offers an opportunity to explore and discuss issues and problems connected with the safeguarding, appreciation and use of the documentary heritage that ordinary people and personalities from the worlds of culture and the professions produce during their working life.
This heritage plays a vital role in conserving our societies’ historical memory, especially that of the XX century; by nature highly varied in the ways they were created and kept and in their subsequent destination, these collections resist precise categorization; they do not yet enjoy unequivocal definition and nor is there general agreement about how best to treat and make them available.
Much important experience has been gained at national and local levels but it nevertheless appears necessary and urgent that the subject be again brought to the attention of archival experts, administrators and other potential interlocutors.
The occasion of the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of Giuseppe Mazzotti provides the framework for this opportunity for reflection and exploration of an important cultural aspect of the Treviso area and for a shared attempt to ensure that it receives the recognition it deserves.
