Unveiling landscapes

The Botteniga resurgences north of Treviso

17-20 June 2025

Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche is dedicating the 2025 workshop to the resurgence springs of the Botteniga river, located in the suburb of San Pelaio, north of the city of Treviso. Freshwater, which gives its name to the Rio delle Fontanelle spring area, emerges in a fragment of agricultural landscape enclosed by private properties, creating a peculiar biotope of particularly clear and calm waters, made up of riparian woodlands, marshy areas, reed beds and wet meadows: a valuable landscape rich in biodiversity but extremely fragile.

The workshop is intended as a moment of reflection and awareness on the sense of exploration, observation and representation of this landscape, with the idea that the production of up-to-date visual forms of knowledge can help those who design, care for and live in open spaces to overcome the exclusively anthropocentric gaze and turn instead to the multi-species potential that operates invisibly in the landscape, consequently orienting an innovative approach to places, also in terms of concrete design devices. The reflection also intends to consider the role of citizens in order to promote a more conscious relationship of people with the landscape and their places of life, as well as innovative forms of knowledge and design of the places themselves.
