As part of the cooperation between Fondazione Benetton and the Postgraduate Master in Landscape and Garden Architecture of the IUAV University of Venice, a workshop on Villa Ninni Carisi will be held on 16 and 17 March 2018 in Treviso. The history of this Villa, with its typical 19th-century historic garden, is intertwined with that of the river Sile and Prato della Fiera, which is not only a public landmark but also part of the city’s historical landscape.
The Master’s students will discuss the importance of this historic garden, the outlook for its preservation and appreciation, and its relationship with Treviso, based on its truly special position next to the river and Prato della Fiera.
The Berlin-based firm Atelier Le Balto, founded by three French landscape architects – namely, Marc Pouzol, Véronique Faucheur and Marc Vatinel – will conduct the workshop along with Luigi Latini and Simonetta Zanon. As stated by Miriam Schoofs, the projects undertaken by Atelier Le Balto «change the way we perceive places that are often neglected in cities by converting them into unique, lavish gardens that are opened to the public: these artists are capable of turning empty spaces between buildings, unsightly inner courtyards and unkempt grassy areas into exotic islands in the heart of cities, which are positively worth exploring. Residents and visitors who wander around these gardens will be amazed at what they can find: each of these urban islands stirs up a range of impressions, offering a wealth of new experiences that will have a subtle yet lasting influence on their perception of life».
