reading by Lorenza Zambon, actress and gardener, taken from Pia Pera’s book, with original live music by Marco Remondini.
This reading originates from the desire of Carla Nicolini of the Festivaletteratura of Mantua and of Pia Pera herself, who died of a neurovegetative disease in July 2016. This memoir tells the story of her condition, following its evolution, which, as the seasons went by, progressed until it forced her to make a radical change in her relationship with the garden, entrusting it, and herself, to the care of others. “I am starting to resemble more and more a plant that needs to be cared for, I am becoming a sister of everything that lives in the garden.” The garden exists and welcomes us, and here we can have a little less fear. This is the meaning of the words read by Lorenza Zambon while she creates a small garden that, inspired by Pia’s garden, grows and changes throughout the seasons.
Nel giardino di Pia (In Pia’s garden)
video screening (2016,18’) by Maria Cristina Vimercati, photographer and painter, introduced by the author.
The evening will end with pictures of Pia’s garden in the Tuscan countryside, filmed in a commissioned video, a present from Margherita Loy and Francesca Caminoli for her 60th birthday. The initial idea was to film the reading of the book Al giardino ancora non l’ho detto (Ponte alle Grazie, Milan 2016), performed by her closest writer friends at the library in Lucca. However, once this intention was revealed, Pia Pera, who was curious and enthusiastic about it, then let her friend Maria Cristina Vimercati explore her precious garden, offering an even greater surprise.
