Giuseppe Stancari Collection

Giuseppe Stancari, engineer, was born on May 10th, 1900 in Portomaggiore (Ferrara) and moved to Treviso in 1907 where he attended the Riccati Technical School. After obtaining a degree in civil engineering with specialisation in hydraulics from the University of Padua in 1924 and working for several companies, in 1933 he was employed by the Ministry for Public Works. Republican and antifascist, since he refused to join the National Fascist Party, he was forced to emigrate to Africa where, from 1938 to 1940 he was in charge of the works for State Road no. 2 Addis Abeba-Robi. After returning to Italy in 1945 he was self-employed, working with roads, buildings, hydraulic works, bridges, land reclamation and irrigation.

From 1950 onwards he took on managing posts with the Bonifica sinistra Piave and the Canale della Vittoria Consortia. In the 50s he intensively took part in conferences on the topics of irrigation and land reclamation; in 1955 he was a member of the Commission for the study of Treviso’s sewers, in 1958 he was a board member of IACP, the public housing agency, from 1963 representative in the Treviso Council sitting on the board of the Ente Ville Venete, from 1962 to 1964 town councillor in Treviso, member of the Council of the Board of Engineers in 1964.

He died in Treviso on September 18th, 1969.

The collection consists of printed publications, projects, correspondence, drawings, grey literature, photographic material. The documents are divided by themes and are in chronological order in each section.

Size: 21 envelopes, 5 filing cabinets (145 folders of design, study, photography documentation, 281 maps, 163 monographs).
